"The first step was to prioritize the human aspect," he reveals. "I reached out to the old seamstresses and embroiderers in the village to whom I entrusted the task of passing on their art to our staff, so that their invaluable heritage of craft knowledge could bring lifeblood to our workshops.
Today in the company there is a component of manual skill that represents a unique asset, guaranteed by people who hand-sew the shirt in the fundamental steps: buttonholes, button application and re-stitching.
In addition, Alessandro Gherardi has invested in cutting-edge tools: "Whenever possible we favor Italian machinery, or we rely on international excellence. As in the case of Toyota, which, with our collaboration, built the automatic, fully computerized and air-conditioned warehouse: a masterpiece of computer engineering." A glass window in the company separates it from the department where the seamstresses work, underscoring the distinctiveness of a company where tradition marries innovation and where the past goes hand in hand with the future. All with the inescapable seal of 100 percent made in Italy production.
Today, Gherardi S.r.l. produces and ships more than 500,000 shirts a year worldwide: 220,000 with our own brands, 18,000 as made-to-measure and 275,000 are those belonging to the Gherardi Pro division, whose task is to meet the requirements of the most exclusive national and international fashion brands.
Every shirt is a piece of art and we are the masters. Every day, thanks to the investment in the most efficient machinery and technological innovation, and thanks to the specialised and craftsmanship skills of its employees, Gherardi S.r.l. is able to produce a high quality product for all its customers.
